Effects of Cyber bullying

Effects of Cyber bullyingIllustration of two teens texting.

Cell phones and computers themselves are not to blame for cyber bullying. Social media sites can be used for positive activities, like connecting kids with friends and family, helping students with school, and for entertainment. But these tools can also be used to hurt other people. Whether done in person or through technology, the effects of bullying are similar.
Kids who are cyber bullied are more likely to:
  • Use alcohol and drugs
  • Skip school
  • Experience in-person bullying
  • Be unwilling to attend school
  • Receive poor grades
  • Have lower self-esteem
  • Have more health problems

A good cyber citizen is....

A good cyber citizen is....
  • Not talking to anyone you don't know
  • Not sending out any personal information even if you know them
  • Don't tell anyone your password on the computer
  • Don't text or email anyone mean or hurtful messages because you can get in trouble
  • Don't copy illegal games/movies/documents on the computer or anything else really!!!
NOW I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE A STORY TO YOU:

A STORY ON CYBER BULLYING
Hi, i am Aprajita and I had a friend named Isha. She was a victim of cyber bulling and it all started with a text.
Jan 12th 2006
She was sitting on her bed when she got a text from an unknown number. It said-
“hi, I am Rajvi, your friend.”
She was surprised as she had no friend named Rajvi and texted her back saying
“sorry I do not know anyone named Rajvi.”
She didn’t receive any messages back so, she thought that it might have been a wrong number.
Jan 14th 2006
As Isha was looking at her friend requests on facebook, she accepted all the requests. Then after 5 minutes she got a message from R.
R-“hi”
Isha- “hi”
R- “okay, so i think we are friends now.”
Isha-“maybe”
R-“so tell me about yourself, now” and like this it went on for a long time and they became very good friends. She most of the time chatted with him unknowing alot about him and then one day-
1st Feb 2006
R-“Isha send me your picture”
And not knowing anything she sent her picture thinking it was casual. Then one day, her father called her, he was really angry. He showed her, her own picture that she had sent to Rajvi. Rajvi had photoshoped her picture and uploaded it online, on facebook.
She ran back to her room to text R, and demand to know what just happened, but the account was already deactivated. She was broken and torn apart. When she went back to her school, everyone was talking about her and was making fun of her. Her family never supported her.
She was very sad and couldn’t trust anyone. She was not able to handle the pressure from her peers and family members and search of peace she committed suicide.
She is not with us anymore but me – being someone who has lost a dear friend  want to tell everyone to come forward to stop cyber bulling as i don’t want what happened with her happens to anyone else. Any victim of cyber bulling should be given support and not neglected. Even if Isha family members would have given moral support she would have been with us.
We should be careful and not post anything unknowingly or make any unknown our friend.
There are many victims like Isha who are not with us anymore or even if they are they’re probably shut about-living from outside and ding from inside and culprits like Rajvi who are still roaming freely outside- so lets all of us put our hands out to help the ones who are the victims and pull them out of the darkness to live a better life.

ABOUT CYBER BULLYING

What is Cyber Bullying?

Cyber bullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.

"Cyber bullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. It has to have a minor on both sides, or at least have been instigated by a minor against another minor. Once adults become involved, it is plain and simple cyber-harassment or cyber stalking. Examples of cyber bullying include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.
